Amanda

Staring out a dirty window
On a cold November day
Memories come creepin' in
I wish I could wish away
Amanda, you lived a lonely life
With childhood adult fears
I write your name in the dust
Do you still cry silver tears

Santa Monica's golden child
A troubled daughter of the Stars
Last time that I saw you
Was near Crossroads in a bar
Hiding your emotions
Behind bloodshot emerald stare
Nothing I could do to make you smile
You were too stoned to care
No one was there to steer you right
To steer you right from wrong
Amanda are you lonely
Amanda where have you gone

Chorus
Your Oscar winning mom and dad
Loved Metro Goldywn Mayer
How could they ever give a damn
Since they didn't even care
Gave you their worst performance
Your silver star never shone
Amanda are you lonely
Amanda where have you gone
Amanda are you lonely
Amanda where have you gone

Another famous poor rich kid
In a fish bowl full of lies
Faking smiles for the paparazzi
When you really only wanted to cry
Acted like loving parents
Who only loved the silver screen
They were too busy for Rockabyes
And let nightmares steal your dreams

break

Chorus

Tag
Amanda are you lonely
Amanda where have you gone
Amanda will you hold me
Hope you hear my song

Judges Comments:

These lyrics are written so well it sound like it could be a true story. I hope not. Good writing, like this, neither seems forced nor contrived. The thoughts flow easy and naturally, though the subject is an uncomfortable one. The use of "Amanda" in both the verse and chorus creates an effective hook. Check out the last line in the third verse; my favorite. I hear solo piano with soft background percussion. Maybe even a violin. Yes! A get your attention and make you think song.

Excellent writing Todd MacPherson, please let us hear more.
