"Welcome to McDonald's; may I take your order, please?
Do you want your hamburger with or without cheese?
Would you like ketchup or salt on your fries?
And last but not least, would you like it Supersized?"

First day I came home from work I felt like I could drop
But Mom said "Well digging's the only job you start on top
So keep your head up and shoot for the moon
And you just might be assistant manager very soon"

My summer job just makes me sick
But I don't complain 'cause it brings me a check
Don't have to beg my mom for cash
To chill up at the mall or the next weekend bash

My friends pass through the drive-thru and I wish that I was dead
When they laugh at the golden arches I wear on my head
I look like Urkel in my polyester uniform
Around my neighborhood I am an object of scorn

But I pass them at the mall and their faces start to cramp
As I watch them try to buy Nikes with food stamps
And I stare at my pockets and they're bundled up with cash
And my job at Mickey D's doesn't seem all that bad

I earned some money; oh what joy it brings
Maybe next summer I'll work at Burger King...

Judges Comments:

These lyrics are more than just good word usage. They capture the feelings of working in the fast food business, very well. Good lyrics writing includes getting your ideas across in a way that allow the listener to empathize. For anyone who has ever worked in fast food, like me, these lyrics hit the nail right on the head! Great job.

Excellent work Kevin (Sludge),  please cook us up some more.

THE TREE

Was it only yesterday, with smiles of joy that showed
our children scampered down the stairs to the tree lit all aglow,
We can still remember, the early morning pleas
that rose us from our slumber, and drew us to the tree

CHORUS:
The tree stands so majestically on this wondrous holiday
as we quietly bow our heads, neath its boughs and pause to pray,
for it symbolizes Christmas, a joyous day we hold so dear
and we vow to keep it in our hearts throughout the coming year

The gifts all promptly opened, papers / ribbons strewn about
pictures quickly taken, midst confusion, that's no doubt
for a moment peace and quiet as the kids run off with glee
leaving just us two together gazing on the wondrous tree

(chorus)

The years have flown so swiftly and the children all have gone
they've started new life journeys, leaving us to carry on
but, each year on this - Christ's Birthday, they each cherish memories
of the love that they were given, and the vision of the tree

(chorus)

These lyrics are thoughtful and very well written. They capture a good sense of that wondrous, crazy and special time; Christmas morning. For those of us with children, there is immediate understanding and appreciation of these ideas. We hope our children will always remember these special times. Songs with easy and flowing lyrics like these, will help reinforce those memories. Nice one.

Alright Dave Gaylor, keep up the good work and send us more.

A penny for attorneys at law,
a penny for the witness
that's the way this impeachment goes!
Pop! goes the Congress.

I've got time to woo and sigh.
I've got time to love you.
Kiss me and I'll have to lie,
Pop! I'm Bill Clinton.

The media loves juicy meat
Lewinsky is a steak now
Starr just can't seem to get enough.
Pop! Goes the Congress.

I'll tell them all I didn't lie.
I'll talk 'bout economics
Hey, give me a kiss goodbye...
Pop! I'm Bill Clinton.

One of the reasons I really enjoy this contest is because, since the melody is already defined, I get to focus on the lyrics. This effectively creates a vehicle to put your thoughts in. Of all the submissions this month, only two were not politically oriented. I guess this speaks to the times. These lyrics are very well written and follow the melody nicely. If our history were to have a new political nursery rhyme, these lyrics would be a strong contender.

Nice one Jennifer , may we please see some more?
