I Need a Smoke

V1:
You say you love me baby..but you hate my cigarettes
If I have to choose between you..I ain't made my mind up yet
They never holler headache..when I reach for them in bed
They sooth my manly pride..while you lay there playing dead
I need a smoke!

V2:
Last year I gave up drinkin' and those girlie magazines
I even gave up rootin' for the Dallas Cowboy's team
I stuck my tail between my legs and like a wuss gave in
Now I have to give up twenty of my best friends?
I need a smoke!

Chorus:
It's been nearly a day now and I can't take no  more
If I don't find a cigarette..I'll be pullin' up the floor
You tell me that they're killin' me
Well darlin' you are too
If I  have to give up everything
I think I'll start with you
I need a smoke!

V3:
Last night you hung "No Smokin" signs dang near everywhere
One's hangin' in the bedroom and on my favorite chair
My head's gettin' dizzy and my hands have got the shakes
I don't how much of you one ole boy can take
I need a smoke!

Chorus:
It's been nearly a day now and I can't take no more
If I don't find a cigarette..I'll be pullin' up the floor
You tell me that they're killin' me..well darlin' you are too
If I have to give up everything..I think I'll start with you
I need a smoke!

Judges Comments:

Wait! Before you call up your mail program, let me say that I am not advocating smoking - I think the feel here is tongue-in-cheek. Interestingly Barbara writes these lyrics from a man's point of view - and nails it. Very cool. If you're up for a challenge, try that! Refreshingly different subject matter, advanced rhyming and humor make "I Need a Smoke" a very pleasurable read.

Well done, Barbara L. Sharp, please send us  another.
