Another Wedding Song

V1:
They were standing at the altar
A young man and his bride
Making vows to stay forever
By each other's side

She was watching from the third row
Couldn't help but wonder why
In all these years of small-town weddings
Love had passed her by

Chorus:
It's an old familiar song that's ringing
Through the church again
She's heard it at the weddings
Of a dozen high-school friends
And though they reassure her
Mr. Right will come along
She fights the tears each time she hears
Another wedding song

V2:
When the band kicks off the first one
The father joins the bride
This final dance of innocence
Leaves him filled with pride

And she watches from the table
Does her best to hide a frown
Cause she can't help but feel the shame of how
She's let her daddy down

Repeat Chorus

V3:
Now she summons her resistance
For the moment has arrived
The girls are gathering 'round to catch
The bouquet of the bride

She can see it high above her
Suspended like her dream
Of yet another small-town wedding for
Another home-town queen

Repeat Chorus

Lyrics: Another Wedding Song

Judges Comments:

This is a very well written song that poigniently illustrates the longing for love, and does so in a manner avoiding all the typical overused forms. Note, also, the theme of expectations of women in our society as in the last line of the second verse: "She's let her daddy down." So, Nancy, is this song lamenting lonliness or is it a political statement on the shortcoomings of society? Excellent contrast!

Nicely done, Nancy, please submit  again.
