Married Ain't A Word

Went to see an old friend
I needed some advice
I was gonna ask my darlin'
If she'd like to be my wife
Got no congratulations
He just stared at me and said
Here's the number for my lawyer
Might be misery ahead

Chorus

Married ain't a word
It's a sentence for life
Some folks find a prison
and some find paradise
"I do" will commit you
So prepare to pay your price
Married ain't a word
It's a sentence for life

Considered all he told me
Then I said a silent prayer
I sold my Chevy pick up truck
To buy a diamond solitaire
Those church bells started ringin'
and my darlin' appeared
I was shakin' at the altar
With the devil in my ear

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
I been doin' time for years now
Don't want to be paroled
I love bein' chained to her
By 14-Karat gold
Some call a marriage a prison
Wanna break their bonds and fly
My word for it is heaven
and I'm in this sentence for life

Repeat Chorus

Judges Comments:

Marriage is a delicate subject, and, like religion and politics, most people have strong opinions about it and they're uaually either "fer it" or "agin it." I like the treatment Steve gives this topic, a good subject for country lyrics. Both camps are represented with good word choices and clever lines.

Good going Steve Denson , please send us  more.
