Dream

Slipping on the underside of life today
Sliding on the wires of a dream I had just yesterday
Hoping everything I knew would still be there
Thinking that the people in the house there would still care

Y'know the funny thing about a dream
Is sometimes they come true
And everything you'll ever need
Is there inside of you
And if I was to walk into the fire
And face this thing called fear
I know I wouldn't have to waste
another useless year

Hoping far beyond a hopeless dream
Wishing I was someplace, somewhere in between
Knowing that I'll never get that far
Thinking that I'd get there if I drove a faster car

Sometimes all I think about is hell
I sometimes think It's maybe just as well
And heaven's never satisfied my dreams
Somehow I always fall between the seams

Slipping on the underside of life today
Wishing I was someplace, somewhere far away
Thinking that I'd never get that far
Always hoping...wishing on that star

Judges Comments:

Charlie's lyrics beg a question of the title: is it a good dream or a bad dream? Sometimes dreams, hopes, and wishes are the only armor with which we can gird our loins against wasted years and "the underside of life." Mr. Meyer is certainly accurate in this regard. I particularly like the contrast of the verses against the chorus which proposes that even in the face of the grim realities of life, dreams sometimes do come true.

Well done, Charlie, please, send us another!
