Sunday Best

I couldn't get to sleep last night
Lord I couldn't catch my rest
I was thinking 'bout my mail order bride
And wearing my Sunday Best

My true love arrives on the 9:35
She's finally coming to the west
I'll be waiting at the station site
Wearing my Sunday Best

We've wrote letters now for two long years
Face to face we've never met
I wrote I'll be waiting with chocolates and flowers
Wearing my Sunday Best

I hope she likes my spit shined shoes
My hair slicked to the left
I hope she can love a simple country boy
Wearing his Sunday Best

The train is heading down the track
Can you hear that whistle moan
My heart is pounding in my chest as I sit
Wearing my Sunday Best

She gets off the train to the preacher we go
She puts on her wedding dress
She says she loves a simple country boy
Wearing his Sunday Best
She says she'll always love a simple country boy
Wearing his Sunday Best

Judges Comments:

These are very well written lyrics. They tell a story in an easy comfortable manner. The rhyming is very subtle and effective, not forced at all. The hook "Wearing my Sunday Best" will allow for an easy musical emphasis. Again, in appearance, this is a simple song. It seems that way because it is so well written. Some of the best lyrics are those that sound as though you are just recounting the events. I hear this as a sort of countryish folk song. A nice melodic guitar with simple percussion would sound good here. I think a soft banjo drifting in and out could add a nice effect. All in all this has the makings of a very pleasant song.

Nice one, Gary, how about sending us some more?
