| Family Tree
(1.)
On a lazy Sunday afternoon my mother came to me,
with some photographs and dated papers she thought that I should see.
The photographs were old and faded and I could barely read,
the dates and names my mother said made up my family tree.
She spoke about our kindred from years and years gone by,
about the time they left Virginia and the lives they left behind.
To see this place called Texas in the hope that it would be,
A place to bring their children and plant their family tree.
CHORUS
Family Tree, Family Tree,
Important information my mother shared with me.
Family Tree, Family Tree,
Chronicles in history of how I came to be.
(2.)
When mama left my room I closed my eyes and began to dream,
about the names and dates and places that she had shared with me.
When suddenly I saw him, He was there in front of me,
Jesus motioned to me gently, and said, "Please come with Me."
He led me to a mountaintop that overlooked a sea,
surrounded by multitudes of people smiling up at me.
He said, "No matter what their color or their place in history,
these are all My Fathers children, this is your Family Tree."
CHORUS
Family Tree, Family Tree,
My Father sees no color and neither should we see.
Family Tree, Family Tree,
A Heavenly reunion I attended in a dream.
(3.)
From the shores of that great ocean, I followed Him anxiously,
down a rough and winding pathway to the place called Calvary.
He pointed to The Cross up on the hill in front of me,
and in a Fathers timeless wisdom, He said these words to me.
"For years and years I walked this earth, many people followed Me,
some came to know My Father; others slipped away from Me.
But for those who choose to love Him I can make this guarantee,
they will be with Us in Heaven, beside this Family Tree."
CHORUS
Family Tree, Family Tree
The ultimate in sacrifice my Savior made for me.
Family Tree, Family Tree
Our Fathers love is patient, He waits for you and me.
Family Tree, Family Tree, Family Tree.
