According to the U.S. Copyright Office, your work is protected just
by you having created it. Then, having it posted on our site (published
on the internet) affords even
more protection - and that may be enough for some of us. But for that
once-in-a-lifetime song, for the one you poured your heart and soul into,
for the ones that seem like your children, undeniably the most ironclad
protection you can obtain, is to have a copyright issued to you from the
Federal Government guaranteeing your rights of
